Amin Muhammed Also known as Eugene Burton October 1, 1957 – June 17, 2025
Amin Muhammed, affectionately known to many as Eugene Burton, was born on October 1, 1957, and passed peacefully on June 17, 2025. Born and raised for a time in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Amin moved to California in 1968 with his beloved sister, Linda Burton. The bond they shared was deep and enduring—Linda was not only his sister but his confidante and closest friend.
Amin's early years were marked by both hardship and resilience. He lost his mother, Anna Williams Washington, in 1968. Anna was previously married to George Lee Williams. Amin's father, Eugene Burton Sr., was a proud Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War and passed in 1976. Amin was one of a large and loving family. He is survived by his sisters, Marlaine Williams and Linda Burton. He was predeceased by his sister Rhonda Trice and his brothers, George Williams and Bobbie Williams.
Amin was a quiet soul in his youth—gentle, thoughtful, and often shy. But those who knew him also recognized a spirit of adventure and independence. He had a love for movies, cherished shiny shoes, and found great joy in holidays and birthdays, especially those shared with Linda. In his younger years, he was known to disappear without notice, only to return later—always with a story and often with money.
After leaving home in 1974, Amin re-emerged in the lives of his loved ones in 2006. With time, experience, and spiritual searching, he found his path in Islam, inspired by the teachings of Elijah Muhammed. His newfound faith transformed him. Amin embraced a life of service, dedication, and purpose. As a devout Muslim, he became a familiar and respected figure in the Los Angeles community—selling bean pies, movies, and music CDs with joy and charisma. He was a true salesman, not just of goods, but of goodwill.
In recognition of his unwavering commitment to community and civic engagement, the City of Los Angeles and Council District Eight honored Amin with a special commendation, signed by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson on December 30, 2019.
Amin Muhammed was deeply loved. His presence, humor, and unwavering spirit touched many. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and those who were blessed by his quiet, steady acts of kindness.
He will be dearly missed. May he rest in eternal peace.
