IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Paul
Martinez
March 23, 1948 – February 15, 2025
John Paul Martinez, age 76, passed away on February 15, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was born on March 23, 1948, in Santa Monica, CA, a son of Blaz and Mary Martinez. He was the ninth of ten siblings, growing up in a large and loving family.
John is survived and missed by his loving wife Linda Martinez, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised four children, who went on to bless them with thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he took enormous pride in their accomplishments and cherished the time spent with them. He loved his grandchildren immensely and supported each and every one of them until the end.
John was a driven entrepreneur that had many professions and hobbies throughout his life. His love for gardening led him to begin his own landscaping business, where he taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work. He then opened 'Johnnie's Hot Dogs' with his wife, Linda. Located at Cabrillo Beach, they greeted guests and staff with delicious food for 7 years. John's knowledge and skills led him to pursue a supervisory role in the maintenance department at UCLA where he eventually retired.
John had a passion for helping others any way he could - whether that was helping others find jobs, giving a letter of recommendation, or taking them under his wing and sharing his knowledge. He was loved by everyone he met, mostly due to his playful demeanor and his "chicken jokes." John's legacy is one of love, dedication, and perseverance. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and his impact on the lives he touched will continue to be felt for generations to come.
